October 9, 2014 marked the night of The King Of The Fall tour in Los Angeles, Hollywood, CA. Accompanied by Jhene Aiko and Schoolboy Q as the opening acts for The Weeknd. The crowd was ready and loud, their cheers across the arena roared all the way to the parking lot of the venue. Each performer left their mark behind but ultimately it was The Kid himself who left that chilling performance.
The illuminated stage becomes pitch black as a chilling background music starts to play, immediately everyone is on their feet standing up focused on the stage. Suddenly the backdrop shows a close up of Abel opening the show to one of my personal favorites, Enemy. Half way through the song the backdrop opens up and out walks a silhouette Abel. The crowd roars of excitement and immediately you feel chills crawling through your body. From the beginning to end he displayed a very reminiscent show, performing an array of songs from his mix-tapes mixing it up with his latest hits such as Belong To The World, King Of The Fall and Often. Half way through the show he wanted to thank every fan in attendance that night, give props to his band and amped up the crowd. The highlight of the show for me was his slow redemption of ‘Wicked Games’ which he also states that he wanted more of an intimate approach for this performance. He asked, “I’m going to need you to get your lighters out, I know you all are smoking out there, get those lighters out. Phones will do if you don’t have a lighter.” They kick out the lights and you would assume the stage lights were still on as the crowd illuminated with lighters and phones at their seats. The stage then darkens of all lights, Abel seems to have vanished for about 4 minutes which felt like forever, leaving you to think the show was over. The crowd starts to chant “Abel, Abel, Abel.” He returns back to the stage to perform his last few songs. Leaving us with his recent single, ‘Often.’ A 3 minute fireworks show starts right after he’s finished. This show was everything for me and I greatly enjoyed his performance!
